Welcome to the Canadian Improv bee!


Hello all!

I have always loved the work that the BeeSewcial Group does. Then this year a lot of us Canadian Modern Quilt Guild Leader have come together in a Facebook Group. One of the leaders there suggested that we do a National Guild Block Lotto. Loving this idea and the choice of wedges as topography, I thought why don't I just start up my own bee. So, now here we are!

I am so excited that this bee has taken shape. I was very unsure what the response to this bee would be. I don't have a large Instagram following and I wanted to limited it to Canadians. But the response was more than I had anticipated. I had so many sign up that I was actually able to form two groups. I put all the names into a draw and assigned them to either group A or B. 

For right now, I thought that I would let you know who is in each group. So go follow each of our members on Instagram!

I have to started a Canadian Improv Sewing Bee. You can find the work of this past years participants on Instagram by following the hashtag #canadianimprovbee or #improvnorth. Several of our members have decided not to continue for the next year. So now I am looking for 10 modern quilter who are comfortable with improv quilting and looking to support, push and encourage one another. What is a Sewing bee, you may ask?  Each month a single member leads the group. At the beginning of the month they will post their prompt on Instagram, tagging their bee mates.  Members then have a month to complete and send the blocks. Once those blocks are received they become the building blocks for a finished quilt.  The prompts may be personally difficult or challenging, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and have some frank discussions . Guidelines

We have very few rules. ·          Improv blocks ·          Solid fabrics (if a special fabric or hard to find colour is requested, you may send out to bee members ahead of time) ·          Members must communicate well ·          Blocks should be sent on time. (We know life happens. Communicate with the monthly leader if something comes up) ·          Please post completed blocks on Instagram.
