I have to started a Canadian Improv Sewing Bee. You can find the work of this past years participants on Instagram by following the hashtag #canadianimprovbee or #improvnorth. Several of our members have decided not to continue for the next year. So now I am looking for 10 modern quilter who are comfortable with improv quilting and looking to support, push and encourage one another. What is a Sewing bee, you may ask?  Each month a single member leads the group. At the beginning of the month they will post their prompt on Instagram, tagging their bee mates.  Members then have a month to complete and send the blocks. Once those blocks are received they become the building blocks for a finished quilt.  The prompts may be personally difficult or challenging, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and have some frank discussions . This bee is based and inspired by the Beesewical group and these guild come from  an article titled #beesewcial from Curated Quilts Issue 5 - Improv   We hav

Hello all! I have always loved the work that the BeeSewcial Group does. Then this year a lot of us Canadian Modern Quilt Guild Leader have come together in a Facebook Group. One of the leaders there suggested that we do a National Guild Block Lotto. Loving this idea and the choice of wedges as topography, I thought why don't I just start up my own bee. So, now here we are! I am so excited that this bee has taken shape. I was very unsure what the response to this bee would be. I don't have a large Instagram following and I wanted to limited it to Canadians. But the response was more than I had anticipated. I had so many sign up that I was actually able to form two groups. I put all the names into a draw and assigned them to either group A or B.  For right now, I thought that I would let you know who is in each group. So go follow each of our members on Instagram!  Group A Name Instagram Natalie @natalieskinnerquilts Linda Morrison @lindyroselou Stacie W

I am so happy with the overwhelming success of the starting this new bee. I was expecting that hopefully I would just get 6 people and we could do a block every other month. But now to have over 16 people want to join! This has been amazing. I really want everyone to participate. So, I am forming two groups. I am keeping the sign up form open until Sunday nite, October 21, 2018. So if you would like to be apart of this group just sign up here: https://goo.gl/forms/jfzhY9EAvwXt4F1S2 Thanks You All! Until next week. Jera MacKenzie

I would like to start this in January 2019. What is a Sewing bee, you may ask? It is a group of people who decided to create a block or two every month, inspired  by that month's leader theme and palate.  Every month there is a new leader. I want this bee to be based on the concept of Improv with Intent. What exactly is that you may ask? I can't explain it better than Cheryl Arkison so go to this blog post:  http://www.cherylarkison.com/diningroomempire/2015/10/what-really-counts-as-improv-quilting.html I would like to have this bee use mostly solid fabrics. The monthly leader is to give an inspirational photo and or/theme. They should also provide a colour range within the group to work and always invite members to use their creativity to interpre
